Sunday, May 13 — Change of Date for the UIM Annual Gala

After prayerful consideration of a series of circumstances, the Board of Trustees has been Divinely Guided to postpone the Gala until later this year. The success of this event, both from a fundraising aspect and a FUN-raising community celebration, is important to us.  Thoughtful discussion determined that a delay in the date would assure that our community had the celebration it deserved. Please mark your calendars for Friday, September 14th!

Tuesday, May 15 - June 12 — Jesus' Teachings in the Bible — 12  to 2 p.m.

The heart of the Unity message is that Jesus is the great example and not the great exception. Jesus' teachings reveal a path of wholeness and divine union that is available to anyone. In these experiential sessions we will explore how Jesus taught, prayed and healed. Our time together will include provocative conversation, interpretive study, and meaningful spiritual practices. We will learn the differentiation between Jesus, the Christ, and Jesus Christ and why this is important to you and your life. The primary resource is the Bible; focusing on the three synoptic gospels of Matthew, Mark, and Luke, plus the first part of Acts. Other resources or materials will be introduced during the course sessions. This class is intended for any Spiritual Seeker! It is also offered for Spiritual Education and Enrichment (S.E.E.) credit through Unity Institute. Those who wish to receive credit are required to attend all five classes and complete assigned coursework. Facilitated by Rev. Karen Epps in Unity Hall.

Wednesday, May 16 — Many Paths ~ "Mystical Poetry" — 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Come for an evening of music, chant, and reading that will perfume your mind and ignite your heart as we experience the language of mystical poetry by Rumi, Hildegard Von Bingen and others. Words are inadequate to describe our time together. Simply breathe, go within, hear the call of your soul and say "Yes! I will be there." This service will be led by Rev. Karen Epps with musical inspiration by Soleil Dakota.

Wednesday May 23 — Rev. Bill’s Healing Group — 12 p.m.

This group meets every other Wednesday for sharing. All are welcome. Bring your lunch and meet in Unity Hall.

Wednesday May 23 — Emerging Leaders ~ "The Celebration of Pentecost” —  7:15 to 8:15 pm

There are three "mega-festivals" commemorated in the Christian calendar. The first two, Christmas and Easter are well known to believers and non-believers of almost all faiths and traditions. But it's possible that even the most liturgically minded Christians may not be as familiar with the third, the festival of Pentecost. Pentecost is the great celebration that marks the birth of the Christian church by the power of the Holy Spirit ‘descending’ on Jesus’ apostles approximately 50 days after the resurrection.  Join Rev. Medora, and members of the Emerging Leaders Circle, as we explore how we speak in many tongues yet each of us hear in our own language.

Wednesday May 30 — Drumming Circle ~ "Drumming and Dancing Your Prayers" — 7:15 to 8:15 p.m.

Please join your commUnity on Wednesday, May 30th for an evening of playing the language of rhythm!  Our drumming circle promotes healing of the soul and a deep sense of connection as we communicate our joy and love for one another through our drums.  No experience is necessary, and there are always extra drums.  Not a drummer, but like to dance??  This service would be perfect for all of you who "Dance Your Prayers"!  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Steve Listug or Pamella Cavanna.

Sunday, June 10 — Tribal Elders — 1:00 p.m.

Tribal Elders welcomes Jean Pohli as she takes us on her journey to India. Jean describes her not to be missed presentation: “My family spent 4 years in India and therein began my love affair  with this amazing diverse country — the people, religions, culture, languages, sacred  places of pilgrimage, government, and the love-hate feelings for the British, who occupied their country for over 200 years. My experiences will be the focus of my talk, woven in with the India that still occupies my mind  and heart for over 40 years  There is an expression by many who go to India, that once it has truly gotten hold of your heart you are never the same.” For me, that is an Amen! A light lunch will be served (with a love offering given).

Events Production (Education Ministry) Seeks to Build A Team of Volunteers for Special Events:   A true abundance of exciting special events are coming our way, and we're building a team of volunteers to "staff" these spectacular offerings!  "First Friday" events alternate monthly between films in the Transformative Cinema series accompanied by discussions with film production principals, and dynamic well-known speakers with a wide range of topics to enrich your spiritual journey. Other special one-time events are scheduled:  an upcoming cabaret night will feature the talented musical group Musaic, and an exciting array of speakers and workshops await our community's enjoyment.   But we need your help!   Consider contributing service during these events -- and have fun doing it!  Tasks include ticket sales at the door, escorting guest speakers here at UIM, staffing a table to sell guests' books/CDs/DVDs, and a variety of similar small tasks that combine for successful events.  To volunteer: contact Mattie Vaughn at (415) 419-7363 or mattievaughn@hotmail.com, or sign the sheet at the sign-ups table in the Courtyard after services.  Joining this events team will definitely to support our community as well as your own efforts to CONNECT, SERVE and GROW!
